Navy performs medical evacuation of Isla Mujeres resident from island

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An elderly woman was transferred off the island of Isla Mujeres to the mainland for emergency medical care. Late Sunday night, Mexican Navy personnel rushed the 73-year-old island resident to the mainland as a medical evacuation.

The Secretary of the Navy made the evacuation after “civilian personnel arrived at the emergency area of the Isla Mujeres Naval Hospital bringing with them a 73-year-old female of Mexican nationality who was unconscious and presented a probable cerebrovascular event (stroke),” they reported.

Medical attention was provided to revive her. Due to the seriousness of her conditon, Navy personnel deployed a vessel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Isla Mujeres to carry out the medical evacuation.

The unidentified woman was transferred to Puerto Juarez where an ambulance was waiting for a hospital transfer to Cancun.
