Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A fisherman with a crushed foot was transferred to hospital Tuesday from his vessel. Members of the Secretariat of the Navy made the medical transfer after an evacuation request.
Personnel from the Ninth Naval Region reported carrying out the medical evacuation of a male person of Mexican nationality off the coast of Quintana Roo.
“This action was carried out after receiving an emergency call from the Thirteenth Naval Zone based in Yukalpetén, Yucatán requesting the medical evacuation of a 30-year-old Mexican male.
The man “had a metatarsal crush fracture of his right foot while board a fishing vessel, which was located approximately 30 nautical miles (55 kilometers) north of Isla Mujeres.”
A Coastal Patrol that was carrying out maritime surveillance intercepted the fishing vessel in order to provide first-contact medical attention, they said.
“Likewise, the immediate departure of a Defender-type vessel from the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) Isla Mujeres was ordered, with specialized rescue personnel on board, who upon arriving at the point of emergency carried out the medical evacuation of said person.
“The man was transferred to Puerto Juárez, where he was handed over to a private ambulance to transport him to a local hospital and receive specialized medical attention.”
