Navy assists with medical evacuation of cargo ship crew member off Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A 57-year-old man was evacuated from a cargo ship Thursday after experiencing signs of a stroke. Elements of the Marina responded to the emergency call for medical assistance from a vessel off Isla Mujeres.

Elements of the Ninth Naval Region carried out the medical evacuation of the male crew member who was aboard a cargo ship approximately 8.2 nautical miles (15 kilometers) northwest of Isla Mujeres.

In their press statement, the Secretary of the Navy reported the medical evacuation was carried out after receiving a call for help in which support was requested for the transfer of a crew member, 57 years old and Ukrainian nationality, who presented symptoms of a possible stroke.

The Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) Isla Mujeres was ordered, with Naval Health personnel on board, to proceed to carry out the medical evacuation and transfer him to Puerto Juárez where an ambulance was waiting.
