Isla Mujeres, Q. R. — A tourist from the state of Querétaro is reported to have drowned off an Isla Mujeres beach. The drowning happened December 24 off the island’s popular Playa Norte.
The national tourist, identified as 65-year-old J.R.V., was vacationing on the island with family at the time of the accident. The mas was swimming off the busy beach when he vanished.
He was returned to shore and treated by paramedics who transferred him to the Isla Mujeres Community Hospital for medical attention. However, the man had died. It is not clear if he died in the ambulance or in hospital.
Authorities have not provided information on a possible reason for the drowning such as if he suffered a medical condition. An autopsy will confirm the official cause of his death.
