Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Police are searching for the owner of a truck found rolled and abandoned off a Riviera Maya highway. The wrecked pickup was located Friday night near Punta Venado, approximately 18 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.
Other drivers who watched as the truck left the highway and rolled also saw the driver get out and stagger away. Motorists who stopped to try and help called 9-1-1 due to the seriousness of the accident.
Early information says the male driver was heading toward Playa del Carmen when the truck left the road and flipped at least twice before landing in a grassy area.
Police were able to locate the gray Nissan Frontier which was found destroyed.
Authorities are looking for the driver of the vehicle they found had been left in the ditch. National Guard Highways secured the area Friday night until a tow truck arrived to remove the pickup.
