Mayor of Isla Mujeres cancels vessel crossings to island

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Private boats along with tour boats will no longer be able to take visitors to the island, says municipal Mayor Juan Carrillo.

“As a preventive measure due to the situation of COVID-19, as of Wednesday, the tourist boats and the fishing cooperatives of Puerto Juárez will not be able to dock on the island of Isla Mujeres,” said Juan Carrillo.

“Starting Wednesday, March 25, no vessel including catamarans that launch from Puerto Juárez, as well as tourist groups that pass commissioners through the different companies, will be able to dock at Isla Mujeres as a preventive measure in the face of the situation experienced by the coronavirus.”

The cancellation of crossings are efforts of the municipal government chaired by Juan Carrillo Soberanis, reported the director of Tourism, Gustavo Rodríguez Orozco. He says there is a firm commitment to protect the health of island families. He added that Ultramar ferry runs from the Cancun Hotel Zone to the island will also be suspended.
