Man clearing Isla Mujeres weeds shot dead in broad daylight

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — UPDATED: A man was left dead in the middle of a road Sunday after being shot in broad daylight. Witnesses to the morning shooting told police that he had just arrived to clear a section of overgrowth when he was killed.

Area residents in the Indio Blanco invastion zone between Cancun and Continental Isla Mujeres reported hearing a red car honk its horn. The man clearing the weeds then walked over to the car at which time he was shot.

The now-deceased was left lying on his back on the dirt road while the car sped away. The targeted attack happened just before 10:00 a.m. The Sunday shooting took place in the same area where, the week before, two people were shot. One woman died in that shooting.

UPDATE: The young man shot to death while removing weeds from a plot of land has been identified as local resident, Ivan N. He was shot in the head by a man from inside a car after the car stopped and pretended to ask for directions.

Ivan’s wife was watching out her window when the car approached and shot her husband. She called police, however, he was dead by the time help arrived. Police did not have any motive for the shooting. Ivan N was a local photographer, specifically, he made his living taking wedding and party photos. He was 30 years old. He was clearing weeds from a plot of land he had just bought.
