Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — After receiving an emergency call in the Naval Command Centre, eight foreign men were located by Isla Mujeres Navy personnel late Saturday. The Secretary of the Navy reported that on Saturday night, personnel from the Ninth Naval Region rescued eight foreigners found in waters northeast of Isla Mujeres.
Over the weekend, a small fishing vessel is reported to have sighted another boat that appeared to be in distress. The distressed vessel was seen in Quintana Roo waters approximately 75 nautical miles (138.9 kilometers) northeast of Isla Mujeres.
Nave personnel began the search with the departure of an Interceptor Patrol type vessel. They were successful in locating the boat and its eight crew after receiving the report from the local fishing vessel.
On board, authorities located eight people of foreign nationality. They were taken to the Naval Station of Puerto Juárez and provided with a medical examination before being handed over to National Migration Institute (INM).
