Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Passenger ferry company Jetway has put its third vessel into operation to cover the Puerto Juárez – Isla Mujeres route. The vessel, which has a larger passenger capacity than its other two boats, will for now, make the trip a few times a day.
Operation of the third boat, which has a capacity for 270, began after tests were conducted in both terminals. The third boat will be used to cover the route during peak morning and afternoon hours, since the demand for service has increased.
The two smaller 70-passenger boats will continue to operate as usual, offering 13 Puerto Juárez – Isla Mujeres round trips per day.
According to figures from Apiqroo, ferry passenger traffic has picked up with the month of September closing with 344,064 passengers, up from 192,507 in September of 2020.
The arrival of the Xcaret ferry is also anticipated to begin operating the same route sometime during the month of October. The company has experienced start-up setbacks due to federal administrative issues along with a lack of ticket office space inside the maritime terminal.
