Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Firemen used the jaws of life to remove a woman from her rolled SUV early Thursday. The vehicle was found laying crushed on its roof after leaving the road and rolling onto a mound of rocks.

Emergency personnel were notified of the single vehicle rollover around 5:00 a.m. by highway motorists.
The accident happened at a highway U-turn (retorno) approximately 21 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.
The vehicle was reported traveling south at the time of the accident and believed heading to Tulum. Firemen were called in to extract the female driver when emergency medical teams were unable to reach her.

The woman trapped inside the vehicle was removed and pronounced dead at the scene.
Upon her death, members of National Guard Highways proceeded to cordon off the accident site and notify state authorities for the removal of the body.

Initial reports say the female driver is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel.
