Islanders say seven got out of boat after making landfall at Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Another abandoned boat believed used by migrants has been found off Isla Mujeres. The small boat was reported making landfall around 11:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Islanders who witnessed the arrival of the boat told authorities that seven people disembarked from the vessel and headed for the island. Municipal authorities assigned the task of investigating the report arrived to find the boat had made landfall on the east side among an area of cliffs.

Inside the boat were left-behind items of clothing and water jugs. Small boats making landfall along the east side of the island has been an ongoing issue, especially this year with regular reports by islanders.

Civil Protection and personnel from the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) also arrived near the Fovissste subdivision to investigate.
