Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An Isla Mujeres taxi driver was injured after crashing through a concrete wall Sunday. The unnamed driver was transferred to a hospital in Cancun.
An injured driver and extensive material damage was the result of the Sunday afternoon accident. The male driver of the car plowed through the concrete wall of a home, completely knocking the wall down.
Police and paramedics were on scene around 5:00 p.m. after receiving reports of the single car crash. The accident happened in an area in the southern tip of the island.
Red Cross paramedics initially transferred the taxi driver to the Isla Mujeres Community Hospital, however, due to the severity of his injuries and the hospital’s limitations, he was transferred to a hospital in Cancun.
The driver of the taxi was traveling north on the Perimetral del Caribe highway when he lost control of his unit and collided with the wall. Witnesses claimed the taxi was traveling at excessive speed at the time of the collision.
