Isla Mujeres security increased for two international events

Isla Mujeres, Q. R. — Island security was increased over the weekend for two international events. From May 19 to 21, the island hosted an international swimming competition and its annual fishing tournament.

As part of the strategies of the Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security in Quintana Roo, a police helicopter was also part of the increased security, carrying out flyovers across the municipality.

Aside from the SSC (Secretariat for Citizen Security) helicopter, National Guard, the Mexican Navy and the Municipal Police carried out ground operations.

Over the weekend, Isla Mujeres (island) hosted El Cruce, a swimming competition with over 1,400 participants. The afternoon award ceremony was held at El Pescador, which was attended by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde.

The island also hosted its annual fishing tournament. Throughout the weekend the XVIII Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña International Fishing Tournament was held. Ricalde reported 91 boats from the United States, Canada and Mexico participated.

The tournament was organized by the island government, which had a record number of participants for 2023 and continues to position itself as one of the best fishing events in the country.
