Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Island residents of Isla Mujeres have requested that the construction of a new viewpoint project be stopped. After collecting more than 1,000 signatures, island residents have asked city council to step in and stop the construction of a wood viewpoint being built at El Garrafón.
The director of Urban Development and Environment, Nivardo Fernández Martínez, clarified that municipal city council has not issued a construction license for this area, which is located on Perimetral Poniente Avenue.
Although Martinez pointed out that the property is private, the current administration has not issued any document in which the owners have been granted permission to built. He said that regarding the project, they will work in accordance with the regulations of urban development.
Over the weekend, dozens of people arrived and held a peaceful opposition of the construction of the new viewpoint.
