Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Upon instruction from the government of Isla Mujeres, a group of people were removed from laguna Chacmochuch after they were found in violation of the municipality’s coronavirus restrictions.
The removal of the group was carried out Easter Sunday by the Dirección General de Seguridad Pública after they were discovered by patrolling police on mainland Isla Mujeres. Authorities ensured the group left the site and returned to their homes.
The municipality of Isla Mujeres has also imposed strict stay-at-home measures as well as social distancing and non-essential travel. This group has been among the first reported found in violation of the rules, which have been put into place to curb the spread of coronavirus.
