Isla Mujeres naval station responds to cruise ship medical evacuation request

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Elements of the Navy of Mexico took on the responsibility of Coast Guard by performing a medical evacuation. The evacuation request was made by a cruise ship that was located approximately 4.3 nautical miles (8.33 kilometers) northeast of Isla Mujeres.

The Navy of Mexico responded to the Monday request after receiving a call for help at the Ninth Naval Region. Cruise ship Carnival Breeze requested the medical evaucation of a 47-year-old female who was found with upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

The American woman was transferred from the cruise ship onto a Navy vessel with medical personnel who completed the water transfer to land where an ambulance was waiting.

The woman was transferred to a Cancun hospital from Puerto Juárez for treatment.
