Isla Mujeres Marina perform medical evacuation of cruise ship passenger

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Marina personnel evacuated a cruise ship passenger Sunday night who was transferred to a Cancun hospital. The 38-year-old Indonesian passenger was medically evacuated after a ship’s doctor diagnosed symptoms of a strangulated hernia in the left groin.

Personnel from the Fifth Naval Region responded to the emergency call from the ship requesting the medical evacuation of a passenger. Marina personnel set out in a Defender-type vessel from the Isla Mujeres Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) with specialized health and rescue personnel on board.

The patient was accessed before being transferred onto the Marina vessel for a mainland transfer. The boat met a waiting ambulance at the Advanced Naval Station (ENA) in Puerto Juárez that transferred the cruise ship passenger to Cancun for medical treatment.
