Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says the municipal government has expanded the public lighting network on the highway to Costa Mujeres. The expansion includes the installation of nearly 500 new LED lights that will provide greater security to those who travel the road.
The new lighting covers 11.5 kilometers of road from the Punta Sam roundabout to the entrance of the RIU Dunamar hotel.
“We continue to transform Isla Mujeres with dignified and quality projects at the level of a destination that continues to develop and grow, consolidating its tourist success day by day, such as Costa Mujeres,” stressed Atenea Gómez.
“This work not only improves the urban image but also provides greater security for the benefit of tourists who visit the destination, the settlers who live in the residential area and the thousands of workers who travel to the hotels centers every day,” she said.
The General Director of Public Works, Ángel Hernández Azueta, highlighted that in the first stage of the project, 109 LED lights and two single-phase transformers were installed. As well, 64 concrete bases were adapted and 34 prefabricated concrete bases were placed.
Hernández Azueta specified that project is currently in the second and third stages. “In this second and third stage, which are being worked on in parallel, we are going to install 385 more lights to finish the project with about 500,” he said.
