Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The municipal government, through the Urban Development and Environment Directorate, suspended minor shoring work in an area of Hotel MIA on the island due to the COVID-19 health contingency
The director of the agency, José Nivardo Fernández Martínez, explained that as soon as it became known that there were construction material and trucks arriving at the site, inspectors paid a visit. During their visit, they saw shoring work under way, which lead to a suspension request.
He said the situation is pending, noting that the hotel failed to respect the health contingency measures implemented by Isla Mujeres City Council. “We are constantly conducting supervisory tours since no work of any kind is allowed until further notice,” he concluded.
There was no word on if the hotel would receive a fine.
