Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Three men were rushed to hospital Thursday afternoon after being shot. The trio were shot at while driving their SUV on Rancho Viejo Avenue of Isla Mujeres.
Mainland police located the burgundy SUV in the left lane several blocks from where the shooting began. Inside, the three victims were found bleeding. They were rushed to Cancun hospital by ambulance. One of the three was pronounced after arriving.
According to preliminary information, the Oaxaca-plated SUV was intercepted by three vehicles while traveling the Isla Mujeres mainland roadway. Those inside the three vehicles opened fire on the men. The driver of the SUV was hit several times in the chest.
Isla Mujeres police working the case located numerous shell casings from the original scene. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Juan Ivan N, a taxi driver originally from Chetumal.
His two passengers, 21-year-old Geovany N and 33-year-old and Jorge N, remain hospitalized. Juan Ivan N died from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. There were no arrests made.
