Isla Mujeres bus driver suspended after complaint of elderly mistreatment

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An island public transport driver has been suspended for two weeks for mistreating an elderly passenger. The incident happened last week which has lead to a 15 day work suspension of the island bus driver.

Miguel Ángel Chan Mena, the Isla Mujeres Director of Transport, said the bus driver was suspended due to a complaint of mistreatment. After an investigation into the complaint, they found the claim to be accurate, which lead to the driver’s suspension.

The operator, Luis “C”, drives for the Isleniux SA de CV company, who operates the urban transport vehicles of Isla Mujeres. Mena said they have received several complaints in the past regarding the unfriendly attitude of bus drivers toward their elderly passengers.

While Mena did not provide details of the mistreatment, he did say that in the event a second offense should occur, the driver will be let go from his position.
