Isla Mujeres bike owner killed for resisting theft

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An Isla Mujeres man was shot to death early Tuesday morning resisting a robbery. The unidentified resident was killed after he refused to hand over his motorcycle.

The shooting happened on Costa Maya Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Area residents reported seeing the young man try to stop his assailants from taking his motorcycle. During his resistance the youth was shot several times before the group rode off with his bike.

Police found the young man’s dead body laying on the avenue. Municipal C5 security cameras captured the criminals riding off with the motorcycle, but police were unable to locate them.

Hours after the shooting, police located three motorcycles reported as stolen. Authorities have not said if one of the recovered bikes belonged to the victim who was shot earlier that day.
