Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The industrial pumps that provide water to Salina Grande and Salina Chica are being repaired. Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says the pumps are at least 15 years old and in need of maintenance.

She says the pumps not only carry water, but also prevent area flooding and the maintenance will help with the overall performance.
“With the aim of improving pumping capacity, avoiding flooding and strengthening the municipality’s infrastructure, the Government of Isla Mujeres, headed by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, continues with the work to improve the infrastructure of the Salina Grande and Salina Chica stormwater sumps.
“Repairs will be carried out on the electrical network, rehabilitation of the gates, painting work and the entire structure in general, impacted by corrosion.
“As part of the work, four electric motors were also installed which is one of the main actions of this project, given that they had been in operation for more than 15 years which reduced their efficiency and increased the risk of failure, especially in the rainy season or in the face of heavy rains.

“With these projects, the Municipal Government reaffirms its commitment to transform the infrastructure of Isla Mujeres, providing security to island families and protecting the environment,” she reported.
