Chetumal, Q.R. — A medical condition is being blamed for a single-vehicle accident in Chetumal Thursday. The driver of a company cargo truck slammed into the base of a tree, destroying the front of the vehicle.
An ambulance was requested at the scene on Revolución Avenue next to the Chetumal International Airport from where the male driver was transferred to hospital.
According to information from the site of the accident, the driver of the truck became lightheaded and passed out while behind the wheel. His semi-unconsciousness caused him to swerve off the road where he hit the tree.
The company truck he was driving was found heavily damaged. Police located him still inside the vehicle. The unidentified man reportedly suffers from diabetes.
