Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Traffic Director of Isla Mujeres has been fired from his job after he was arrested for impaired driving. Darniel Morales Morales, the now former Director of Traffic and Roads of Isla Mujeres, was officially removed from his position Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Policía de Isla Mujeres released an official public communication notice of the removal of Darniel Morales Morales from his municipal position. Morales was fired after being caught drunk driving during a check stop in Cancun Sunday morning.
During the Cancun police check stop on February 9, he was also found carrying his weapon which lead to public speculation about his involvement in gunshots, however, Policía de Isla Mujeres clarified that was not the case.
He was fired for being arrested by police at a checkpoint in the city of Cancun for driving his vehicle while intoxicated.
In a brief statement by Christian Linares Gómez, head of Citizen Security and Traffic of Isla Mujeres, he reported that in relation to the arrest of Darniel Morales Morales at a traffic checkpoint in the municipality of Benito Juárez during the early hours of Sunday, the official was placed at the disposal of a judge for driving while intoxicated.

Linares Gómez also clarified that Darinel Morales was not involved in gunshots, but was dismissed from the corporation for failure to comply with the disciplinary regime.
The statement was issued in response to a news article that claimed that Darniel Morales Morales was arrested in SM 237 after allegedly firing his service weapon while he was intoxicated.
