Group using dating app to lure victims found operating in Cancun, Tulum and Playa del Carmen

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A group of four accused of using a dating app to lure and rob their victims have been arrested. Three men and one woman were taken into FGE custody after being identified as responsible for drugging and robbing their dates.

According to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the group not only operated in Playa del Carmen, but also in Cancun and Tulum. All four were arrested in Playa del Carmen Monday night after a victim reported being drugged and robbed.

All four were located at different areas in Playa del Carmen and taken into custody.

The unnamed victim reported setting up a date with a man named Adrián “N” who arrived at his home with a woman identified as María Eneida “N”. After having a few drinks that she had mixed, the victim lost consciousness.

That is when two accomplices identified as Juan José “N,” alias “Hunter,” and Rodrigo “N” arrived at the apartment in the Ejidal neighborhood to steal items.

The victim reported having their jewelry, computers, televisions and cell phones stolen. The thieves also emptied the victim’s bank account using bank cards they found in the apartment during the robbery.

Investigative Police from the FGE reviewed surveillance footage to track down the group alleged responsible. All four were located in various points of Playa del Carmen and arrested separately during an operation by the PDI.

They are being held in the Cereso prison in Playa del Carmen and are facing charges of aggravated robbery and criminal association. The FGE says they are continuing to gather evidence to link them to other dating app robberies that have been reported in Cancun and Tulum.
