Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A group of nine males allegedly involved in the sale of narcotics were arrested from the Costa Mujeres area of mainland Isla Mujeres. The Costa Mujeres area is where the municipality’s newest hotels have been built over the past several years.
In a July 28 press release, the State Attorney General’s Office said that the arrests were made on July 27 while police were carrying out crime prevention tours along the Punta Sam to Isla Blanca highway.
In doing so, they observed the group of nine men exchanging bags of what appeared to be narcotics on the beach. Once they saw police, all nine ran but were eventually captured.
More than 120 bags of various street ready doses of narcotics were found during their searches along with Mexican peso and U.S. cash. Two communication radios and six handmade sun hats commonly seen worn by beach vendors were also located and seized from the group.
