Group of 13 from Isla Mujeres facing kidnapping and human trafficking charges

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A group of gang members allegedly involved in kidnapping and human trafficking have been arrested in Isla Mujeres. On Tuesday night, the group of 13 were taken into police custody from the La Noria area of the mainland of Isla Mujeres.

According to the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo, their arrests came after a citizen 9-1-1 report of suspicious activity. According to the report, someone witnessed a car arrive from where three people, with their hands tied and heads covered, got out. All three were lead inside the house.

Due to the report, police arrived and were met with resistance saying six tried to escape by pushing officers in order to climb over a wall, while others attempted to flee in parked vehicles, one of which was labeled as a taxi.

After their arrests, police rescued three people from inside. One woman and two men, all from Salvador, who were removed from the home and placed in protective custody. From the property, police seized numerous cell phones, three Salvador passports and five vehicles.

From inside, Jorge “N”, Raddy “N”, Julio “N”, Guillermo “N”, Álvaro “N”, Rafael “N”, José “N”, Manuel “N”, María “N ”, Julio “N”, Candelario “N”, Miguel “N” and Armando “N” were arrested. The group are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking.
