Golf cart destroyed in Isla Mujeres cliff tumble

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Police cordoned off a cliff area Monday night after a golf cart went over the edge. The cart landed on the wet rocks below after rolling. According to available information, the cart was not properly parked at the cliff and tumbled over the side while the driver took photos nearby.

The driver left the cart on a sidewalk overlooking the steep embankment when it went over on its own. It landed on rocks in the sea below. Isla Mujeres traffic police were called. They arrived with personnel from Civil Protection.

The immediate area was red-taped off until the unit was recovered from the rocks Tuesday. The golf cart was reportedly a rental. A representative from the company arrived Monday night to confirm ownership.

Isla Mujeres police have not commented publicly on the late night mishap. No one was on the golf cart when it went over. The cart was destroyed in the fall.
