San Miguel de Cozumel, Q.R. — A group of island gang members suspected of murders and attempted murders have been captured. Local authorities have arrested six males who, according to the State Attorney General, are responsible for creating violence on the island of Cozumel.
“With the arrest of six people, the State Attorney General (FGE) managed to dismantle a criminal cell that generates violence in this municipality, dedicated to the sale of narcotics, also related to the attempted murder of a motorcycle taxi driver that occurred on the 4th June of this year in the Maravilla neighborhood, among other high-impact crimes,” they reported in a statement.
“Among those captured by the Investigative Police are Jovany Rosalino “N”, alias “Santa Fe” and/or “R36”, Elberth Adriano “N”, alias “COX” and/or “R13”, José Roberto “N”, alias “Beto” and/or “R7”, Eduardo Valentín “N” and two minors,” they said.
During the arrests, agents seized an R-15 assault rifle as well as useful cartridges and two short weapons in addition to various doses of possible narcotics.
Investigations after their arrests alerted police to two of those detained as being involved in Cozumel murders.
“As part of the field and office investigation work, it was established that Jovany Rosalino “N” and Eberth Adriano “N” are the alleged material authors of the qualified homicide of a male person, a fact in which a minor was also injured on May 29 of this year, in the Las Fincas neighborhood.
“Likewise, José Roberto “N” and a 15-year-old teenager are related to the attempted homicide of a motorcycle taxi driver, which occurred on June 4 of this year in the Maravilla neighborhood,” they added.
