Former governor of Nayarit Roberto Sandoval and daughter arrested

Linares, Nuevo León — On Saturday, the former governor of Nayarit Roberto Sandoval and his daughter Lidy N, were arrested in the municipality of Linares, Nuevo León. The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) made the arrests, accusing both of the crime of operations with resources of illicit origin.

According to the National Registry of Detentions, Sandoval Castañeda was arrested at 8:31 a.m. The Secretariat for Citizen Security and Protection reported that he was captured at a ranch in Linares. The arrests came after after eight months of monitoring by the National Anti-Kidnapping Coordination and the Attorney General’s Office of Nayarit.

The arrest warrant was carried out in one of the 40 homes where both were believed to have been hiding during that time. The FGE says they had a network of houses in Nayarit, Jalisco, Nuevo León, the State of Mexico and Mexico City, all of which were used to avoid capture.

The current governor of Nayarit, Antonio Echevarría García, said he does not know details of the arrests of the former governor Sandoval Castañeda or his daughter.

On March 1 of this year, the FGR announced an arrest warrant has been issued by a federal judge against Sandoval and his daughter, Lidy, who had also been identified for illicit enrichment in the form of at least 11 properties.

In March of 2018, the Attorney General of the State of Nayarit secured five properties of the former Governor Roberto Sandoval as part of their investigations, which was promoted by the Truth Commission of Nayarit for illicit enrichment.
