Flight diverted due to foggy morning at Chetumal International

Chetumal, Q.R. — Another foggy morning left traffic slowed and at least one flight diverted from the Chetumal airport. On Tuesday, the recent cold front that soaked the southern region created damp air for early morning travelers.

A Mexico City flight bound for Chetumal was diverted to the Cozumel International Airport after being unable to land at Chetumal. Dense fog left the area with low visibailty.

Flight Y4824 was diverted to the island of Cozumel for nearly two hours while crew and passengers waited for the fog to lift. The plane landed at Cozumel International at 9:30 a.m. and remained grounded until 11:12 a.m. before being able to continue to its original destination of Chetumal.

State  Civil Protection — Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil QRoo– also posted a warning aimed at motorists due to the heavy fog. “Facing the meteorological phenomenon fog, take the following precautions: In the presence of fog banks in urban areas and roads it is important to maintain the permitted speed limits and turn on all the lights on your vehicle.”

It is the second time in two weeks an early morning Mexico City flight bound for Chetumal has been forced to land at Cozumel to wait out fog.
