First sea turtle rescue of the season on Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Sea Turtle personnel on Isla Mujeres have recused their first of the season. On Tuesday, a white sea turtle was seen stuck on jagged rocks. A quick rescue by Tortugranja personnel on the cliffs of Punta Sur were able to move her to a safer placed to enter the sea.

Deline García Canto, director of the agency said the adult turtle was moved to a safer area where she was able to return to the sea on her own “without complications”. The official said the turtle became hung up among the rocks, however, after a quick review, she did not present any injuries.

García Canto said anyone seeing a sea turtle in distress can call Civil Protection or Tortugranja to contribute to the care and preservation of the turtles, especially now when they are arriving to lay their eggs.
