Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Municipal authorities have reported on the containment of a fire inside a Riviera Maya hotel. On Monday, firemen were called to an Xcaret hotel in Riviera Maya due to an outbreak inside the hotel.

According to Civil Protection, the umbrella of the local fire department, the fire happened in the underground parking at Hotel Xcaret Arte. Firefighters arrived to find the underground parkade thick with white smoke.
All guests and employees were evacuated from the building while firemen attended to the source of the smoke. Civil Protection reported over 800 people were evacuated Monday while authorities assessed the situation.
The fire was located inside an electrical panal in the underground parkade. The panel itself was found completely melted by the electrical overload.

In a briefing, Civil Protection reported “Personnel from the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters responded to a fire in the electrical panel area of the underground parking garage at the Hotel Xcaret Arte.

“As a preventive measure, approximately 880 employees from various operational areas were evacuated. No tourists or guests of the complex were affected.
“The incident was brought under control by operational personnel from the Secretariat and the hotel, and no injuries were reported.”
Authorities did not provide an exact cause for the fire, but did report no injuries during the Monday afternoon incident.
