Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Eight members of a criminal cell operating on the mainland of Isla Mujeres have been captured. Friday, police said the group were taken into custody with assistance of National Guard and the Mexican Navy.
In a statement, authorities said “Investigative Police captured eight people belonging to a criminal group dedicated to the sale of narcotics in Isla Mujers.”
According to police, the group were located at a beach access area located behind Rueda Medina Avenue. There, José Antonio “N”, Yoneli “N”, Jesús Antonio “N”, Marco Adrián “N” and Christian “N” were arrested in flagrante delicto. After conducting an inspection, various types of alleged narcotics similar to marijuana, crystal and cocaine were found.
Additional members belonging to the same group were arrested in a separate operation on the same night. Police say Joel “N”, Ricardo “N” and Abigail Alicia “N” were arrested in flagrante delicto on the streets of the Centro neighborhood.
During a search, police found various doses of green and dry grass with characteristics similar to marijuana and another possible solid substance of crystalline color.
Initial investigations indicate that the eight detainees are part of a criminal group dedicated to selling narcotics in various parts of Isla Mujeres.
