Cruise ship passenger transferred to Cancun hospital after suffering heart attack

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A cruise ship passenger who suffered a heart attack on board has been transferred to a Cancun hospital. The Secretary of the Navy responded to the ship’s emergency request for a medical transfer after receiving the call.

Personnel from the Ninth Naval Region carried out the medical evacuation of an elderly female cruise ship passenger approximately five nautical miles (nine kilometers) northeast of Isla Mujeres.

“This action was carried out after receiving an emergency call in the Command and Control Room in which support was requested for the transfer of a 70-year-old female person of foreign nationality who had a cardiac arrest,” the Secretaría de Marina reported.

The immediate departure of an Interceptor Patrol was ordered with specialized personnel on board who, upon arriving at the emergency point, carried out the review and medical evacuation of the person who was transferred to Puerto Juárez where an ambulance was waiting for her to be sent to a local hospital for specialized medical care.”
