Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two arrests have been made after armed groups exchanged gunfire on Isla Mujeres. Two people, adult men, were transferred to island hospital from the attack early Wednesday.

Island residents of La Gloria reported the sound of gunfire to emergency services early this morning. When paramedics arrived, two men with bullet wounds were found laying on the ground and transferred to island hospital.
Due to the severity of his injuries, one of those men was transferred to Cancun. The second shooting victim remained in hospital on the island. There are reports that while there, an armed man allegedly entered the hospital and killed him. Police have not confirmed or denied that allegation.

Municipal Police did however confirm that two criminal groups exchanged gunfire leaving injured and deceased in their wake. According to sources, two cells were fighting over territory and a settling of scores following the recent arrest of a group leader in Mérida.

State Police made the arrests of the two gang members involved in the Wednesday morning shootings. Both men were reported armed with long weapons when located and eventually taken into custody. At the time of press, authorities had not commented publicly on the Isla Mujeres criminal gang attacks.
