Cozumel public official fired after lying about accident

Cozumel, Q.R. — A Cozumel public official has been removed from his position for omitting information about a car accident. Cozumel mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo, confirmed that the official was relieved of his position for omitting information about who caused it.

Interviewed by media, she reported that the public official was discharged accordingly after a video began circulating regarding the accident, which happened Tuesday morning.

The mayor mentioned that since the Tuesday accident, doubts as to who was responsible for the two-car crash were raised. She asked citizens who had evidence of those responsible to contact the corresponding authorities.

Video was presented showing that the public official was the one responsible for the accident, running a stop sign and crashing into another car, which in turn, hit a motorcycle.

She said that in the event any official commits any fault or incurs improper conduct, the council will act with a heavy hand, reiterating “that any citizen who has any proof of the wrongdoing of any public official can make an anonymous report.”

Marrufo stressed that her administration will be consistent with the fundamental principles of the Fourth Transformation, which are do not lie, do not steal and do not betray the people.
