Cozumel police find dead body after early morning report of shots fired

Cozumel, Q.R. — An early morning Cozumel residential report of shots fired lead police to the discovery of a dead body. It was around 1:00 a.m. when island authorities were alerted to the sound of gunfire coming from inside a private home.

As a result, Cozumel police found a dead male identified by an island alias of “El Pitus” in a home in the San Miguel I neighborhood. A second person, his friend, was reportedly found injured with a bullet wound after being shot in the ribs.

Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office collected evidence before the deceased was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service.

“El Pitus” was allegedly a known island thief who was arrested in August of last year in Las Mariposas park. During his arrest, he was found with stolen items.
