Cozumel mototaxi drivers protest claiming Imoveqroo harassment

Cozumel, Q.R. — A group of motorcycle taxi drivers protested Friday in front of the Municipal Palace to request an end to the harassment they say they suffer by Imoveqroo.

The group gathered in front of city hall saying they are persecuted and are victims of authorities from the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo). They demanded to speak with Cozumel mayor Juanita Alonso.

Instead, Ociel González, the General Secretary of the City Council, met with the leader of the motorcycle taxi driver’s union, but without reaching an agreement. The group of mototaxi drivers were told the body responsible for regulating the service they provide is the state government, not city hall.

According to Ociel González, the mototaxi leaders requested a meeting with the mayor even after being told that city hall is not an authority over Imoveqroo. They eventually relocated their protest in front of the Imoveqroo offices in the San Miguel neighborhood.
