The inspections were carried out by members of the Construction of Peace and Security. According to Cozumel Police, the inter-institutional operation was carried out to prevent crimes, ensure regulations compliance and guarantee legal operations.

The initiative involved the Navy, the National Defense Secretariat, the State Police, the Jaguar Group, the State Attorney General’s Office, the Public Safety and Traffic Directorate, Civil Protection, Urban Development, the Ecology Sub-directorate and the Inspection Department, they reported.

Those involved in the repair shop operations carried out specific inspections, fulfilling their functions to verify that the workshops comply with the necessary provisions in each area, Cozumel Police explained.

“During the inspection, important findings were obtained in several areas. The Urban Development area notified the owners of the inspected workshops that they lacked a land use license, giving them a period of three business days to remove the vehicles that were occupying the public road in an irregular manner.

“Civil Protection reported that some of the workshops visited did not have the essential documentation for their operation such as the approval of Civil Protection and adequate security and cleaning measures in their facilities,” they said.

The Subdirectorate of Ecology reported that in some cases, they detected the absence of environmental permits and oil statements, which compromises the proper environmental management of waste.

The Subdirectorate of Traffic inspected 77 motorcycles in the workshops to verify that they did not have a theft report, without finding irregularities in the vehicles inspected.
