Court orders Isla Mujeres staff evicted and property transferred to settle debt

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The dispute over the Tortugranja property on Isla Mujeres continues with the eviction of city staff. The Tuesday afternoon eviction saw the removal of several city staff members who were caretakers of the approximately 20 sea turtles on site.

A clerk carried out the eviction of the staff and securing of the land where the Tortugranja is located, which is part of a commercial lawsuit against the owner of the property.

It was the Juzgado Mixto de Primera Instancia of Isla Mujeres where an executive commercial trial, filed by Alfonso Barnetche Pous against Fernando Chávez Roa Huerta, owner of the land where the site is located, was held.

On Tuesday afternoon, a court clerk handed over possession of land adjacent to the facilities due to an outstanding debt. The property, located on Sac Bajo Highway, Supermanzana 7, block 70, lot 1, was guarded by police who arrived to monitor the handover and eviction of staff.
