Couple returned to Isla Mujeres after mechanical failure

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Elements from the navy have safely returned a man and woman to shore after responding to a call for help. Elements of the Fifth Naval Region at Isla Mujeres rescued the pair after they reported mechanical issues with their vessel.

In a press release, the Secretary of the Navy of Mexico reported the request for assistance came over a marine band radio. Responding to the call, the sailboat Kamal was located 3.7 nautical miles (seven kilometers) southeast of Isla Mujeres.

The Mexican woman and American man were returned to shore after being adrift when Kamal presented mechanical failures in her propulsion and canopy system.
