Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Motorists called an ambulance for a man who is reported to have suffered a heart attack while driving Monday. The man was driving a company truck when motorists reported seeing him slow down before simply veering off the highway.
Police and medical personnel arrived at the scene to find the driver of the company gas truck dead behind the wheel.
The incident happened Monday evening approximately 10 kilometers south of the city of Playa del Carmen. The LP gas truck driver was traveling the federal highway when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
Motorists who stopped to help called 9-1-1. Paramedics arrived and began resuscitation efforts, however, he was pronounced dead.
National Guard Highways cordoned off the area and diverted traffic around the site while forensics removed the body. An autopsy will be preformed to determine the official cause of death.
