Civil Protection working to drain island streets after continued heavy rains

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The government of Isla Mujeres says they are continuing to work to deal with island flooding after the recent rainfalls. Municipal head Atenea Gómez Ricalde says elements of Civil Protection are working tirelessly to deal with the continued flooding that is occurring in the first square of the island.

Civil Protection director, David Figueroa Gutiérrez, explained that the entry of cold front no. 8 has arrived with a lot of rain, which has caused flooding in several areas.

For this reason, he said pumps are being used to drain flooded streets, particularly along the main avenues.

He explained that personnel have been out from an early hour attending to the soaked areas and reports of flooding on Hidalgo Avenue and in the area of the Pescador roundabout, both in the Centro neighborhood.

He mentioned that the rains are forecast to continue until Monday, and has asked residents to use garbage containers and not allow garbage to land in the streets where it clogs drains.
