City of Cozumel working on state land donations to create mountain bike park

Cozumel, Q.R. — The City Council of Cozumel is working on contracts for the donation of state government properties for the creation of a mountain bike park. Cozumel Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo said the city is working on signing contracts that would see around 17,000 square meters of land donated.

Marrufo said that the mountain bike park is being built in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, adding that the city has had the project going since February of this year.

The city is working in coordination with the Strategic Projects Agency of the State of Quintana Roo (Agepro) to carry out the regularization process of 28 properties that have been promised donations.

As of May 16, 11 properties were delivered with documentation that shows Cozumel as the legal owner of the Emiliano Zapata park, public library, the Asterio Tejero baseball field, Francisco Cordero poliforum, a community development center of the Social Development office the Bicentenario”sports unit, the DIF park and María Viana, among other properties.

Once all the land is donated, the city will create a mountain bike park and family recreation space.
