Chetumal police stumble upon Belize man with active missing person report

Chetumal, Q.R. — A man police later found out was a missing person was located in the city of Chetumal. Patrolling officers were hailed down by an adult male who was asking for help, saying he had just been thrown from a moving car.

According to FGE information, he was located on Insurgentes Avenue in the Forjadores neighborhood of Chetumal. The man, who identified himself as José “Q”, was run through Plataforma México, Mexico’s criminal database, where police learned he was an active missing person from Belize.

According to police, “he was sheltered in the unit and transferred to the State Police facilities to receive the corresponding care.”

The 35-year-old man is reported to have been a taxi driver from Belize who was last seen at the Chetumal market along the border December 3, 2023. He ended up stuck in Chetumal after his taxi broke down.

Police in Chetumal came upon the man January 4, 2024. Details regarding his one-month disappearance are not known.
