Chetumal, Q.R. — A man accused of shooting a woman in the process of attacking another man during a home invasion has been detained. Chetumal police arrested the suspect identified as Yosmar “N” after he was seen fleeing from a private home.
Patrolling officers happened upon the incident where they saw three men flee from a home on Felipe Berriozábal Street. Two of the men fled at the sight of police. The third man flagged down the patrol unit and requested help after his grandmother was shot.
Chetumal officers arrested one of the two men after a chase. One man was found hiding in a building. The second managed to escape. In their official report, the SSC of Quintana Roo reported on the detainment of Yosmar “N” for attempted homicide.
“Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security were carrying out surveillance tours on Universidad Avenue in Chetumal when while traveling on Felipe Berriozábal Street, they heard gunshots.
“At that moment, they noticed the presence of two men, one of them was carrying a short beige weapon and the other was carrying a black weapon. Both were shooting at a house, so police immediately approached to make the arrest.
“The subjects, upon realizing the presence of the officers, ran away and at the same time, another male signaled to them asking for help reporting that minutes before, the attackers had approached him at the entrance of his house, threatened him with weapons and began to attack him.”
During the shooting, his grandmother was wounded in the left shoulder.
The elements continued with the chase to catch up with the two involved, who entered a sheet and wood house to try to hide. After them, police also entered the building. Inside, one of of the fleeing shooters was arrested in possession of a Glock 9 mm caliber brown-colored squad-type weapon with seven bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber.
The detainee was transferred to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo for attempted homicide.
