Cancun, Q.R. — A CFE transformer that blew Monday night raised a concern across some social media platforms. Area residents in Huayacán reported hearing the overly loud bang that was later determined to be a transformer.
On Tuesday, Policías Cancún posted “Regarding the various reports on social networks where there are explosions or tremors in the Huayacan and Colegios area, the Cancun Civil Protection team and the Cancun Fire Department determined that the cause of the explosion was a CFE transformer. There are no reports of people injured or damage to homes.”
Shortly afterward, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) posted “After the report of a transformer explosion in Cancún, CFE personnel did not detect any affectation in the electrical installations.”
The explosion was reported by area residents shortly after 7:00 p.m. Monday. According to reports, the transformer that exploded was near the intersection of Guayacán and 135 Avenues.
Several city blocks reported hearing and / or feeling the explosion.
