Central neighborhood without power after Isla Mujeres cart driver breaks CFE pole

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A temporary weekend power outage on the island of Isla Mujeres was the result of a golf cart slamming into a CFE pole. The evening accident happened on Friday as the long weekend approached.

The driver of the cart reportedly lost control and crashed into the base of an old electric pole that gave way from the hit. The broken pole resulted in several island neighborhoods being without power.

Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were called to the scene of the single-cart accident on Carlos Lazo Avenue in Colonia Centro. There, they found one of their poles knocked out of place with wires dangling mere meters above the ground.

CFE personnel were quick to arrive and replace the pole. Affected area residents were without electricity for around 40 minutes. Island police did not comment on possible charges or replacement costs to city property.
